This is it. This is real. Today is the first day of marathon training.
It feels weird to even type it out. I am not a runner. I am a jogger that likes to enter races for the bragging rights and free swag. Now I have officially started training for 26.2 miles.
People have asked me how I’m going to do it, and the answer is not easy, but it’s simple. I will put one foot in front of the other, and any time the pain feels like too much, I will think of Justin. It is the same way I trained for the Disney Princess Half Marathon. No matter how much I hurt, I know he suffered so much more, and for a lot longer. Justin keeps things in perspective.
So how does day one start? With a rest day.
Anticlimactic, right? I thought so. Instead, I’m using the day to really think about Justin and the other children that are in the fight for their lives. I’m trying to figure out ways to shoot my $1,000 goal out of the water, because they deserve it. I’m thinking of the families, my family, as they try to piece up what pieces remain of their lives.
